Psychotherapy

My therapy practice offers a safe, supportive space for the open exploration of whatever is challenging you; my aim is to work collaboratively with you to find greater well-being, purpose, happiness, and ease in your life.

My training as a psychotherapist was grounded in post-graduate studies in social work, and so my basic orientation is to think about people in the context of our interactions with the social/political/cultural world around us. My clinical orientation has always been about the application of Rogerian (humanistic) principles, where the goal of therapy is to help clients move toward a realization of their own deepest values, facilitated by a therapist who provides genuine empathy, respect, and positive regard.

To enhance this general perspective and approach, I have, over the years, acquired training in some specific methodologies, each of which offers the use of particular, evidence-based techniques and can enrich the therapeutic process. These include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), including TEAM CBT methods for dissolving internal resistance to change, for addressing anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges;
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), for alleviating distress associated with traumatic memories and experiences;
  • Mindfulness and body/breath-awareness techniques, including hybrid yoga/psychotherapy sessions and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, for easing stress, anxiety, and sadness.

Private and group psychotherapy is offered on a direct-pay basis only; I do not accept insurance. Cost for private sessions with individuals or couples is $150 for one hour. If cost is a hardship, flexible cost and payment structures may be available — please ask!

I’m available for an initial telephone consultation at no charge, and would be happy to discuss whatever’s on your mind.

Payment accepted via cash or personal check.
